Mini Session or Full Session? Which session is right for you.

I can hardly wait for spring and the nice weather. With the warmer weather means more families will be looking to document their family with a photo session.

I often get clients interested in mini sessions. I am super excited to be offering many different options for mini sessions this year but sometimes a mini session is not always the best fit for every family.

Read below to learn more about what a mini session really is, what it’s not, and what type of session would be best for you.

What is a mini session and how does it differ from a full session?

A mini session is a shorter session typically 15-20 minutes including a limited number of photos. Think of a mini as “just a taste” of a piece of cake. A mini session is typically treated as an event on a specific location and date set by the photographer with back to back time slots for families to sign up for. Typically, mini sessions are seasonal and are not offered all year round.

Although minis are super popular with families, sometimes a full session can be a better option. A full session may be a better option for your family if:

You have a large family including more than 6 people

Larger families take longer to pose. If you are including extended family such as aunts, uncles, grandparents, or cousins, it is best to schedule a full session so there is time to capture the different family groupings.

You have a specific location in mind for your session

If you have a specific location or date you would like to have your session, a full session is a better option. Mini sessions are only scheduled on selected dates and specific locations chosen by the photographer.

You are wanting an entire gallery of photos from your session

My mini sessions only include 3-5 images while my full session include 25 images. Mini sessions are perfect for families who are just looking for a few photos but if you want a gallery of images, a full session is best!

Your children need time to warm up to new people

Some kiddos need some time to warm up and often don’t start feeling comfortable until 5-10 minutes into a session. For these families, a full session might be a better fit.

I hope this post has helped guide you in figuring out what session type is best for your family.
